Why do i need a filling?

Fillings are gernerally performed to prevent further damage to a tooth when decay is present. Tooth decay occurs when the sugars in food and drink are turned to acids by bacteria in the mouth. Overtime these acids create tiny holes in our tooth’s outer shell called enamel and burrow further into our teeth.

When a decay forms it is necessary to receive treatment such as a filling to stop the spread of the decay and restore strength to the tooth as further decay can cause structural problems, uneven your bite or decay other surrounding teeth. By removing the bacteria and closing the affected area off, no further tooth decay can occur.
