X-RAYS & 3D SCANS
IMPORTANCE OF X-RAYS
X-rays are important for dentists to identify any tooth disease and surrounding tissue infections that wouldn’t be picked up by an ordinary oral exam. X-rays help the dentist to find and treat dental problems early in development. This can potentially save you money, unnecessary discomfort, and maybe even your life.
Safety principles are applied to minimize radiation doses for all patients.
LEAD aprons are available for patients.
Orthopantomogram (better known as OPG’s) provides a panoramic or wide view X-Ray of the lower face, displaying all the teeth of the upper and lower jaw on a single film. We use this to assess wisdom teeth, bone or gum loss, placement of nerves or sinus in relation to teeth and jaw joints.
CBCT | 3D X-RAY
Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. We use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth and complex anatomy, eg. soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan which helps with treatment planning and the chances of successful treatment.
CBCT is especially useful for when implants are desired because it allows the dentist to see the quality and quantity of bone available in the area you would like the implant.
